NEW BLACKSMITH CLASS FORMING!
WOULD YOU LIKE TO TRY YOUR HAND AT BLACKSMITHING?
DNAP’S BLACKSMITH SHOP USER GROUP IS ORGANIZING A BEGINNING BLACKSMITHING CLASS THIS COMING FALL. CLASSES WILL BE IN TWO HALF DAY SESSIONS ON ON A SATURDAY AND SUNDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER 28 AND 29, 2019. YOU MUST ATTEND BOTH SESSIONS IN THE PROPER ORDER. PARTICIPANTS MUST BE 18 YEARS OLD (OR 14-17 WITH WRITTEN CONSENT OF PARENT/GUARDIAN). EVERY MEMBER OF THE CLASS MUST BRING A SET OF SAFETY GLASSES AND WEAR COTTON CLOTHING. ALL OTHER TOOLS AND METAL STOCK WILL BE PROVIDED.
CLASSES WILL BE HELD AT THE TOM KENNON BLACKSMITH SHOP AT THE HERITAGE HOMESTEAD IN DOWNTOWN DONIPHAN, MISSOURI. CLASSES BEGIN AT 9:00 A.M. AND CONCLUDE AROUND 1:00 P.M. EACH DAY. THE TOTAL COST IS $50.00 TO COVER THE COST OF COAL AND METAL STOCK FOR BOTH CLASS SESSIONS. CLASS SIZE IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST FIVE MEMBERS WHO REGISTER AND PAY THEIR FEE.
CLASS DATES ARE SEPTEMBER 28TH AND 29TH, 2019.
THE SESSIONS WILL COVER THE FOLLOWING BASICS OF BLACKSMITHING:
Session 1: History of Blacksmithing, Sources of Information, Introduction to the Forge, Shop Safety, and Operating the Forge, Hammer and Anvil Basics, Drawing Out and making a drive hook.
Session 2:. Upsetting, Bending, Shaping, Making a Leaf Hook; Introduction to Forge Welding.

Heritage Days Annual Event (Formerly “Civil War Days”) April 17-18, 2020
Annual two-day festival filled with live music, storytelling, living history exhibits and pioneer and early 20th century life demonstrations including rail splitting, fiddle making, blacksmithing, quilting and other vintage crafts together with military history, classic cars and period costumes. The 15th annual Heritage Days event will take place April 17-18, 2020. Vendors and crafters who would like to participate can contact the Curator at the Heritage Museum 573-996-5298 for information on registration and fees.

U. S. Senator, Roy Blunt, pays a visit to Doniphan and is hosted by DNAP at the Current River Heritage Museum Where He Tours the Exhibits and Discusses Local History with Staff and Patrons.
